What Are Zygomatic Implants?

Anchored in the cheekbone.

Zygomatic implants are long implants placed through the mouth in the normal implant position for restorability — but instead of anchoring in the jaw, they extend up through the sinus to anchor in the cheekbone, known as the zygomatic process.

This technique is used specifically when the sinus has become pneumatized — expanded with air — and there is no longer a viable alveolar ridge where the maxillary teeth once were. In these cases, conventional implants simply cannot be placed, and bone grafting would require extensive procedures with long healing times and unpredictable outcomes.

Zygomatic implants bypass all of that — anchoring immediately in dense, stable cheekbone for a secure, lasting restoration without grafting.

Precision Placement Technology

The EZGoma System by Noris Medical.

We are one of the only offices in Arizona to use the EZGoma System by Noris Medical — a precision guided system for zygomatic implant placement. This advanced technology allows Dr. Winterholler to precisely plan and place multiple zygomatic implants where necessary, using 3D metal printed surgical guides for unmatched accuracy and predictability.

The combination of CBCT 3D imaging, digital planning, and custom-fabricated metal guides means every zygomatic implant is placed with surgical precision — reducing risk, improving outcomes, and shortening recovery time.

If they said no — ask Dr. Chris.

Consultations are always complimentary. Bring your scans and your history. We have seen patients who were told they could never have implants walk out with a complete treatment plan the same day. Advanced zygomatic techniques make it possible for nearly anyone — regardless of bone loss — to receive a permanent, fixed smile.
