01

Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours before surgery

You may not have anything to eat or drink — including water — for 8 hours before your appointment. For morning surgery, no food or liquids after midnight the night before.

02

No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery

Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery. Smoking significantly impairs healing and increases your risk of complications.

03

A responsible adult must accompany you

A responsible adult must accompany you to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive you home. You may not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.

04

Plan to rest for the rest of the day

Plan to rest for the remainder of the surgery day. Do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.

05

Dress comfortably

Please wear loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes. Remove contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures at the time of surgery. Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish.

06

Notify us of any illness or health changes

If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, or stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office immediately. If you take routine oral medications, check with your doctor before your surgical date for instructions.

07

No alcohol or recreational drugs for 72 hours prior

The use of alcohol or recreational drugs can adversely affect the anesthesia medications we use. Please discontinue the use of such for at least 72 hours before your procedure.

08

Follow all prescribed medication instructions

If your doctor prescribed you medications, please follow the instructions for their use closely. Note for women: Some antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness of your birth control pills. Please check with your pharmacist.
