FAQ's
Common questions patients ask.
Choosing dental implants is one of the most important decisions you can make for your long-term health, confidence, and quality of life. Here are the most common questions we hear — answered clearly and honestly.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant replaces both the root and the crown of a missing tooth. A titanium post is surgically inserted into the jaw bone, an abutment connects the post to a custom crown, and the crown is designed to match your existing teeth. The result looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.
How long do dental implants last?
With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime. The titanium post fuses permanently with your jaw bone through a process called osseointegration. The crown may need replacement after many years of wear — but the implant foundation itself is designed to be permanent.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most healthy adults are candidates for dental implants. If you have been told you don’t have enough bone, Dr. Chris specializes in zygomatic, transnasal, and pterygoid implants that enable placement even with significant bone loss. The best way to know is a free consultation with a 3D CBCT scan.
How long does the procedure take?
Is the implant procedure painful?
Dr. Winterholler is trained to place implants with great accuracy for the least invasive procedure possible. IV anesthesia and sedation options are available for complete comfort. Most patients describe the recovery as much easier than they expected — and we provide detailed aftercare instructions and prescriptions before you leave.
What is the W-4 Implant Solution®?
The W-4 Implant Solution® is Dr. Winterholler’s proprietary full-arch restoration system — replacing an entire arch of teeth in a single day using just four implants. Every restoration is designed, planned, and fabricated in our in-house Zirkonzahn laboratory using Prettau® Zirconia, the most durable material available.
What are zygomatic implants?
Zygomatic implants are longer implants that anchor into the cheekbone (zygoma) rather than the jaw bone — making them ideal for patients with significant bone loss in the upper jaw who cannot receive conventional implants. Dr. Chris is one of the few dentists in Arizona trained in this advanced technique.
How much do dental implants cost?
Every case is unique. At your free consultation, Dr. Winterholler will take a 3D CBCT scan and provide a complete, itemized cost estimate specific to your situation. We offer financing through Alphaeon Credit, CareCredit, Compassionate Finance, LendingClub, and Proceed Finance — and will work with you to find a plan that fits your budget.
